The ‘Fat’ on Being Called Skinny
I wanted to discuss something today that has been on my mind for a while.
You see, I used to be a very skinny guy and I will always retain my hardgainer genetics.
Thats just who I am, and thats ok because I have found a way to build myself up to a physique I am happy with.
But I always wondered the following:
Would I rather have skinny genetics or be born with a slower metabolism resulting in being overweight?
Would I rather have trouble gaining muscle or losing fat?
Of course each is hard for seperate individuals, but one has advantages the other doesn’t.
I am undecided.
But the real reason I wanted to discuss this topic is because I dont really think that people understand that being called ’skinny’ is actually very insulting to a person who is self conscious of being small.
Before I started really working out and going through my body transformations, I used to get called skinny or small many times.
Growing up it didnt really bother me, but as I got older it started to get to me.
‘oh you eat so much, but you are so skinny’ ‘You really need to put some meat on your bones’
I used to hear these words from many people.
The worse part about it was that no one knew that I was tyring to gain weight by eating so much, but I just couldnt do it.
It was very hurtful to hear these things and not being able to do anything about it.
That is probably one of the reasons why I have such determination in keeping my physique, continuing to put on muscle and never again be that small!
But why is it that people are so quick to call someone skinny, but so hesitant to call someone fat?
Calling someone fat to their face is a major no no.
Its rude, inconsiderate and down right mean.
But why isnt calling someone skinny viewed the same?
It hurts just as much, and it is just as unfair as being overweight in my opinion.
Both present their challenges.
The only advantage the majority of skinny guys have is that they can pretty much eat anything without gaining weight.
But for someone who really hates their skinny body, do you really think they dont want to trade their food intake for muscle? Hell no.
If someone would’ve told me that I could put on 20lbs of muscle but I would have to stop eating pizza for 6 months, I would say bye bye to pizza.
My point is both are BORN with these genetic limitations.
BOTH want something they have to fight so hard to get.
BOTH really want to be respected.
So why is it that caution is thrown to the wind with one group and not the other?
I believe everyone should give the same level of sensitivity to skinny people as overweight people.
Both are deserving and you dont know who is trying really hard to change.
Dont set them back another step by demeaning them.
Have you ever been called skinny or fat?
