I Was Caught…Eating Cat FOOD!?

Yes this is kind of embarressing…

As you may or may not be aware of, I am currently in preperation for my first fitness model show in early 2010.

So I am trying to incinerate the fat to reveal a nice sculpted physique for the comp.

My days are filled with hours cooking and preparing meals, training, logging time on the cardio machines, early morning rises and the occasional nap :)

Of course none of that really has the same effect on my body composition as my nutrition does.

That being said, who has been on a diet? I really dont like that word because I feel like it has a negative stereotype associated with it but for simplicity purposes that is what I will use.

(Funny…the guy at work looked the same when he saw what I was eating)

Anyone who has went through a fat cutting phase before in their life knows that at times it can be exceeedingly difficult to follow.

I am actually following a little diet that allows me to cheat some days but as payback, it has some pretty strict adherence guidelines to follow on days when you are not cheating.

One particular days this week, I was on a ‘low carb’ day (btw carbs arent bad and are not to be avoided like the plague, rather it is just a techinque to burn a little more fat on some days) and anyways, I was on my fourth meal.

Tuna and a Sweet Potatoe. Yummy…actually once you get used to it, its not bad.

First here is how I transitioned to actually eat tuna with no toppings.

1st week: Tuna drenched in hot sauce, dill spice, pepper and some salsa
2nd week: Tune hot sauce, dill spice and garlic
3rd week: Tuna hot sauce and dill spice
4th week: Tuna hot sauce
5th week: Tuna (Man I miss that hot sauce :) )

So I was on my sixth week at this point and I went to the cafeteria and opened my can on tuna and took my sweet potato out from the microwave and went to my desk to eat.

I sit with a couple of other guys who are not very aware of dieting.

I started eating my tuna from the can, minding my own business and then I heard someone say with a very surprised tone of voice

“Joey, are you eating CAT FOOD?”

He had been convinced that I was eating cat food from the can.

A little embaressing, and of course being a shy guy, I turned red as I explained

“Nope, just tuna”

But in his eyes, I dont know what sounded worse, Tuna or Cat Food as he was even more shocked that I would eat tuna plain and from the can!

In my defence, I dont like doing dishes…so if I can improvise and save a dirty dish…I will!

This seems to happen a lot to me…not eating cat food, but just getting comments about either;

How much I eat in a day
What types of food I eat
Why people hate diets
etc…

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard someone ask;

“Late lunch eh?
or
“Is it lunch aready”
or
“Do you eevr stop eating”

I would be very close to retirement.

Most times it doesnt bother me, but every now and then it does, Ill admit it.

But here are some quick tips in dealing with these kind of situations;

1. Dont get upset or angry. Rehearse a good practice response and when it comes up you will be prepared.

2. If someone is constantly asking or prodding at you, try explaining t him in full detail why you are doing what you are doing. I am serious. Go on for as long as you can or until he just walks away…trust me it works. Or he might get so interested he will ask you how he can start. Win Win.

3.Understand that people are naturally curious about things they either dont understand or are not exposed to the majoriy of time. You might be very well aware of why you are doing this, but to a perso who only eats 1 or 2 meals a day, seeing you at 6 could seem absurd. Be patient.

Nobody said a healthy lifetyle was easy! And until the day where the MAJORITY of people are eating healthy, you are going to continue to get picked on for your strict eating habits.

What are some of your stories? I want to hear them…so that I dont feel so alone in the battle of maintaining a healthy fit body!
